Dating from the late 18th century, the 'Rose and Crown’ is a Grade 2 listed pub, owned and managed by Ben Johnson, who was brought up in Great Waltham. Now in Ben’s twelfth year of ownership, at the 'Rose' we take pride in being a genuinely independent locally owned pub, with several of our well-known senior staff having worked at the pub for most of those years. As many of our customers say, it’s a ‘proper’ pub.

We offer a warm, friendly welcome, traditional ales from the local 'Bishop Nick' brewery,
a log burner for the winter and a varied menu with traditional country products, fresh seafood, the usual pub favourites, plus our expanding vegetarian and vegan options. There is a separate takeaway menu, including our in-house all-week breakfast menu, plus on Sundays, our popular roasts, along with various ‘Specials’ of the day. If you’re ‘working from home’, we have free high-speed broadband, password supplied on request with pub purchase required!

We are not a large pub so, on Sundays, we need maximum flexibility to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time as possible. We do not accept or guarantee bookings for specific tables or specific ‘rooms’ of the pub, though we will do our best to accommodate everyone. We reserve the right to move diners if party numbers on arrival are less or greater than advised at the time of booking. Again, on Sundays, we do not accept table reservations for drinkers only.

We welcome well behaved quiet dogs on a lead in the bar area, but not in our restaurant dining areas, unless they are support dogs. We have baby changing facilities in the ladies toilets and high chairs for infants.

We are continuing with our much delayed building of a new storage unit behind the main pub. This will replace our temporary portakabin with a permanent structure and free up space for additional car parking. There should be no disturbance to customers, with construction hidden behind the fencing.
